25 February 2003 A meeting in Paris was arranged for discussing a proposal for a Network of Excellence focused on Sustainable Forest Management and forest ecosystem research. Contact Anders Mårell at the ENFORS Secretariat (marell@engref.fr) for further details.
12 February 2003 Instructions and guidelines for the country-wise introduction and summary chapters were distributed to the WG 1 members.

5 February 2003 Technical report no. 1 "Scientific issues related to sustainable forest management in an ecosystem and landscape prespective" was published by ECOFOR and is now available at the ENFORS Secretariat (marell@engref.fr).
4 February 2003 Regional WG meeting with the national representatives of Ireland at the University College Dublin, Ireland, with the participation of the WG 1 member of the United Kingdom.
16 January 2003 Presentation at the EEA (European Environment Agency) workshop on European Networking of Long-term Ecosystem Research for Environment and Health with the main objective of discussing the establishment of a European network of research sites for long-term ecological research.

18 December 2002 The sixth newsletter of ENFORS was published on the ENFORS homepage and distributed among the members and other stakeholders.
17 December 2002 Regional WG meeting with national representatives of the United Kingdom at the Alice Holt Lodge, Forest Research, Agency of the Forestry Commission, United Kingdom.
17 December 2002 Regional WG meeting with national representatives of Germany held at the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, Berlin, Germany.
2 December 2002 A plea was made to the ENFORS members concerning Short-Term Scientific Missions that are expected to deliver sound comparative information about methods, experiments and research programmes in the countries participating to ENFORS.
2 December 2002 The summary report of the Copenhagen meeting November 8-9 written by the coordinators of WG 1 and the ENFORS Secretariat was distributed to the ENFORS members.
2 December 2002 The STSM report " Approaches for studying forest ecosystems at the landscape level and in the long-term" by Josephine Pithon (Ireland) was published on the ENFORS homepage and distributed to the members of ENFORS.
25 November 2002 Poster presentation at the open seminar 'Forest Research and the 6th Framework Programme: Challenges and Opportunities' organised in the framework of the EU project QLK5-CT-2002-30221 'IMACFORD' by EFI and ECOFOR. Nearly 200 participants attended the seminar that was held at the 'Maison de la Chimie' in Paris.
24 November 2002 Informal meeting aiming at discussing an Integrated Project or a Network of Excellence under the thematic sub-priority 1.1.6.3 'Global change and ecosystems' of the 6th Framework Programme. The meeting was arranged by ECOFOR and EFI at ENGREF (Ecole Nationale du Génie Rural, des Eaux et des Forêts), in Paris.
15 November 2002 A letter of thanks written by the Steering Committee was sent to the participants of the Copenhagen meeting.
13 November 2002 A notification letter about the further progress on the initiative of merging the two Expressions of Interest 'Forest Umbrella' proposed by EFI and 'Forest Ecosystems' proposed by ECOFOR in association with ENFORS was sent out to the members of ENFORS. The letter was also an invitation to a strategic meeting to be held in Paris, November 24, 2002.
9 November 2002 The sixth Steering Committee meeting was held shortly in connection with the combined working group meeting in Copenhagen. Please find the minutes at the documents page.
8-9 November 2002 Combined working group meeting (WG 1, 2 and 3) November 8-9, 2002, in Copenhagen, Denmark, discussing the national inventories of field research  facilities (WG 1) and starting up the activities of WG 2 and 3.
28-30 October 2002 ENFORS was presented by Olivier Laroussinie at an international seminar on Environmental assessment in the Agropolis International building in Montpellier, arranged by Michel Deshayes, Cemagref. The ENFORS Secretariat was present and represented ENFORS during the whole seminar.

25 September 2002 A notification letter for the combined working group meetings of the Action November 8-9, 2002, in Copenhagen, Denmark, was sent out to the invited members. 
25 September 2002 The fifth draft of Technical report no. 1 "Guidelines for the national inventories of field research facilities" was distributed among the WG 1 members. Start of the "National inventories".

24 September 2002 The European Commission opened the CORDIS database on Expressions of Interest (Identifier: EOI.FP6.2002) to help prepare the first calls of the 6th Framework Programme (FP6). The database contains 50 proposals for 'Networks of Excellence' and 119 proposals for Integrated Projects related to 'forest' under the sub-thematic priority areas '1.1.6 Sustainable development, global change and ecosystems' and '1.1.6.3 Global change and ecosystems'. 26-29 August 2002 A poster presentation of ENFORS was made at the IUFRO meeting in Copenhagen.
21 August 2002 The ENFORS pamphlet and poster were printed in 5000 and 6 copies, respectively.
21 August 2002 A total of 22 sites were reported to the ENFORS Secretariat during the test period of the guidelines for the national inventories. Those 22 sites included a preliminary total inventory of 14 sites from France.
8 July 2002 Technical report no. 1 "Scientific issues related to sustainable forest management in an ecosystem and landscape perspective" was submitted to the COST Secretariat in Brussels for printing by the European Commission.
14 June 2002 The fourth Steering Committee meeting was held as a telephone meeting. It was organised by GIP ECOFOR and the ENFORS Secretariat in Paris.
12-13 June 2002 The Chairman Folke Andersson visited INRA, Bordeaux-Aquitaine, and their research sites together with the ENFORS Secretariat and GIP ECOFOR.
10 June 2002 WG 1 members were asked to test the guidelines between June 10 and July 12, 2002, by sending in one example site using the summary form provided with the guidelines.
10 June 2002 Technical Reports No. 1 and 2 were sent out to the MC and WG 1 members for final revision.
7 June 2002 An Expression of Interest (EoI) in the form of a Network of Excellence with the title "Sustainability of forest ecosystem management in a changing environment" was submitted to the European Commission on Friday June 7, 2002, by Olivier Laroussinie, GIP ECOFOR.
25-29 May 2002 Representation and presentation of ENFORS by Norbert Kräuchi at the 18th Task Force meeting of ICP Forests, Lisbon, Portugal.
29 May 2002 An announcement was made and the calls for nominations of members to WG 2 and 3 were distributed to the MC members. Deadline for nominating candidates is 10 June 2002.
29 May 2002 A reminder about the call for Short-Term Scientific Missions was sent out to the MC members.
28 May 2002 A summary by Prof. R. Hüttl of the special session "Landscape planning and sustainable forestry" was distributed to the members of ENFORS.

17 May 2002 A first draft of an "Expression of Interest" for the EU 6th Framework Programme was distributed among the members of the Temporary Working Group.
15 May 2002 The first call for STSM was announced. The title of the STMS is "Comparing and evaluating methods, experiments and research programmes. Please find further information here.
15 May 2002 A questionnaire for mapping the national and regional research interests as listed in the Technical Report No. 1 under the "Main fields of interests" was distributed among the ENFORS members. The questionnaire should be handed in to the ENFORS Secretariat (marell@engref.fr) before May 20, 2002.
14 May 2002 The chairman informed the SC members that their next meeting (planned at the EC - Joint Research Centre in Ispra and Giorgio Matteucci, Italy) will be held as a telephone meeting in order to save time and funds. The SC members were asked to reserve Friday June 14 at 10.00 - 12.00 am for the meeting.
3 May 2002 The Annual Progress Report (December 2000 - April 2002) was handed in to the COST Secretariat in Brussels for further distribution to the Technical Committee on Forests and Forestry Products by Mr. Arne Been, COST Secretary.
25 April 2002 The minutes from the second MC meeting was distributed to the network members.

20 December 2001 The second newsletter of ENFORS was distributed to the members of ENFORS. It is also possible to download the newsletter here .
20 December 2001 The Freising meeting is once again postponed. The reason for the postponement is due to economic mismanagement in Brussels. A new date will be decided in January 2002, but it will probably be in March 2002. A letter written by Arne Been at the COST secretariat in Brussels will be sent out to the members of the Action explaining the situation and the reason for the postponement.

13 December 2001 Start of the Action. The minimum of 5 signatories were fulfilled.
